Indian Railway is the fourth largest railway network in the world. It is often referred to as the ‘transport lifeline of the nation’. The total number of people that travel by railway in a year in India is more than the total population of Australia. The number of passengers using the railway is increasing every year, so to meet the growing demand, the government of India has set up bigger and longest railway stations. 1) Howrah Junction Railway Station

Howrah railway station is also known as Howrah Junction. It is also the largest as well as the oldest railway station in India. Its station code is HWN. It was established in 1852, however, the first public departure was on 15 August 1854.

It was designed by Frederick William Stevens in an Italian Gothic style. Its construction was started in 1878 and was completed in 1887 and was named Victoria Terminus at that time. Later it was renamed many times. Recently, it was renamed Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus in 2017.
