VisualSVN Users & Access Permission

VisualSVN Server allows you to set access to selected users. Access control in VisualSVN Server looks similar to the Windows file system. However, there are major differences that make difficulties for beginner Subversion users.

We can create the user whom we want to give access to the SVN server. Also, we can set the accessibility for every user.

Let’s see how to create users and set accessibility for them.

To create a user on the VIsualSVN server, open the VisualSVN server manager. Right-click on User option and after that Create user. Consider the below image:

As we click on the create user option, a form will open where we can create the user and its password. Consider the below image:

We can create multiple users in VisualSVN.

Let’s see how to set the read and write access to the users.

Access permission in VisualSVN

Access permission is needed to be set for private repositories. If we want to share a private repository, we have to grant access to that particular user. To provide access to the repository to the particular user, right-click on the private repository whom we want to share. Open the properties of the repository. Consider the below image:

Under the properties option, click on the add option.

It will list the available users. Select the user(s), whom we want to share the repository. Consider the below image:

We have selected the user Johny, now set the accessibility. Consider the below image:

We can see the permissions and select them according to our needs. Click Apply for the last change.
