Installation of Wordpress Using Xampp

The first step in the process of development of any Wordpress-based website is to install the Wordpress on the local host. The local host can be a Windows or Mac-based system. In order to install WordPress locally on your system, you need a localhost server app. Many alternatives to localhost server applications are available on the internet. As mentioned in the earlier article, some of these are XAMPP, MAMP, WAMP, and LAMP. Before discussing the process of installation of Wordpress for the localhost, let us discuss the advantages of the same:

Advantages of Using Wordpress for Local Host

Wordpress is the most easily available tool for developing and testing websites locally. It is a free and open-source platform for managing content and the creation of webpages. The benefits of using it for a local host are discussed below:

  1. Adaptable and Time-Saving – It takes a considerable amount of time to build a WordPress Website from the initial point. Opting the conventional way to set-up and design WordPress on a live server would take plenty of hours to be invested online to get your website working. Instead, a user can use local installation and an internet connection for deploying the website on the global web.
  2. Fix Downtime Problem – To make changes to a live website, such as changing the subject, modifying the content, adding functionality, the required downtime can affect the reputation and robustness of the website. Thus to improve the uptime, the user can test all the changes comprehensively and can apply them to the website online once satisfied.
  3. Enhances Development – Installing Wordpress locally provides the convenience to test the plugins and functionality of the webpages rapidly.

Prerequisites to Install Wordpress

There are certain conditions required to be fulfilled before installing Wordpress to the Local Host. These conditions are as follows:

  • A server-side scripting language like PHP.
  • A commonly used web server application, like Apache.
  • A database management system like MySQL, which is relational.

All these can be installed individually but are available as a stack package called XAMPP. XAMPP includes all three components used for installing Wordpress in the system. The process of downloading and installing XAMPP is already discussed in previous articles. On successfully installing XAMPP and starting Apache and MySQL modules in the Control Panel, this is what appears on the screen.
