What is Project Tiger?

The project tiger was deployed by the authorities in order to take the prevention steps before it’s too late to save them from extension. We need to take proactive steps to save them from extinction, as the number of tigers is decreasing day by day. Many ways were attempted to preserve the tiger’s species, and It is an important initiative targeted to conserve tiger’s wildlife in India.

It is necessary to make the habitat needed by the tigers adequate, and avoid any cutting of trees in that area. It’s a crucial responsibility to conserve or save the national animal of India.

Many of India’s policies have contributed to a decline in the depletion of tigers.

To ensure that no human being could reach the region and do any damage to the tiger or its environment, several protection areas were established. The Project was started on April 1, 1973, and is still on.

They began this project to save tigers. It started at Jim Corbett National Park (Uttarakhand) under Indira Gandhi’s leadership. The project’s targets were clear-to preserve the Royal Bengal Tigers from it’s end.

What is Project Tiger

We are the main reason of their decline, so all the protected arenas are made of no humans. They made sure the area where the tigers lived was clean and protected as well and no humans can enter in the premises without the permission.

Project Tiger was effective in increasing the tiger population. From 1200 to about 5000, the number has risen.

With complete commitment, the project team has been doing its job, and all national parks are making efforts to do the project. In this initiative, about fifty national parks and sanctuaries are involved.

The national parks in India that are involved in the Project Tiger are:

  • The Ratapani Tiger Reserve (Madhya Pradesh)
  • Sunabeda Tiger Reserve (Odisha).

Project Tiger faced many difficulties, like the Forest Rights Act and poaching, but cleared all obstacles by the govt., and the project tiger is working at it’s pace.

Project Tiger’s success

The journey was not easy for the rising population of tigers. Tigers were counted 1 thousand and 2 hundred around 1970s, as per the new survey, tigers had a growth to five thousand. In fact, in last eight years, there has been a 30 percent growth in the demographical rate of tigers.

This tells a lot about the govt. and national parks’ hardwork. Although the whole world is looking for ways to increase the number of tigers by Project Tiger, India has already begun to get the milestones.

India has shown the magic of conserving wildlife in general, from converting hunting grounds to tiger reserves. Acts relating to forests and wildlife have also been revised. Any kind of illicit animal trade has been forbidden.

People action is not tolerated in any of reserves and forests. Tigers to eat, to survive and to live, an actual habitat has been set-up. This project has been described around the world as ‘most successful project’.

The plan is still going on and will proceed until the Tigers do not come out of the list of endangered species. The next population record will be in 2019, and a mark of achievement will be the number registered.

Challenges for Project Tiger faced by the government:

Every good project has a lot of burden to bear and has many obstacles to face. The efforts and commitment of different government officials make Project Tiger a good piece of work. It was tough to take away the land to use for hunting in ancient times. It was not liked by many and raised objections. But the project still occurred.

Poaching was another big obstacle. Many people use tiger bones and skin to be sold on foreign markets. For them, this was a big business and won them good cash. They could not avoid the illicit trade in animal skin, after all the measures undertaken by the project. People used to breach the law and sell them to foreign buyers. This has caused tiger depletion. Strict legislation was made by government officials and the subject was grounded.

The human population living there faced the issue during the development of sanctuaries and reserves and thus raised its voice against it. Where they declared their toughness, so they declared a Forest Rights Act. They also needed to have room for them and didn’t want to go from their real arena.

Their people also breathe on the periphery of the park in many national parks.

They came to peace with the Tiger Project and recognised its meaning. Although few livings are not very specific about the want, the assignment is taking place at full pace.

Employment Created by the Project Tiger

The want for human help came into the limelight with the growth success of the project. All aspects of the project offer employment, emerge from setting up national parks to handling it.

Common labourers got work for living when the forests were converted into national parks. And as the assignment is still bigger, there is still a need for work. Other than that, to design the city, builders and architects are required. A point was made by Project Tiger to select the best worker, new or old.

The national parks need maintenance after the work has been completed and the wildlife has been created. For every state, there is a conservation team. Managers and workers were recruited into that unit.

The promotional team was leased to make people aware of the existence of Project Tiger and to make them understand the significance of the issue. To aware of the people, social media, flyers, advertisements, and banners have played a vital role.

The reproduction of the animals is accomplished by specialists. Due to the spread of the project, this part of the job is constantly rising. They ensure that all the equipment, species are appropriate for the tigers to breed.

The tourism sector is the most important part that earns the most benefit for these reserves. Tourists visit the place with national parks overflowing and endangered species being protected. The national parks have begun to maintain an admission fee along with it they have also earned from safari that lucubrates the tourists. Localities are getting more chances to do their works.

Thus, the Tiger Project was not only beneficial for tigers, but also for humans.

How did Project Tiger help to safeguard other wild species?

The government changed the Wildlife Conservation Act of 1972 after observing the success of Project Tiger. This made sure that other wildlife is still protected, along with tigers. Each national park has taken the initiative, one by one, to save endangered species. For example, Gir keeps lions, and Kaziranga keeps one-horned rhinos. The project helped individuals understand the value of other wildlife.

As hunting to save tigers was banned, other species were also spared from the game’s vicious clutches. The population of many species gradually began to increase. Various other species also have tiger reserves. But they, along with the tigers, are also preserved.

All of the decisions taken in conjunction with Project Tiger have led to the creation of other animals. Many national parks have begun to have individual projects of their own. The initiative, amid all the difficulties, ensured that animals were rescued from the hands of humans.

Government becomes more conscious of the organisms that are depleting. The understanding made them understand that they really needed to do something about other endangered species. Every other animal was saved, with the national animal of the world.

Over fifty national parks have taken under the Project Tiger yet, and every park is creating same efforts to preserve the endangered species.

Stand up of four thousand tigers during few past years is one of the project’s milestone achievement. Humans have to a very large degree avoided hunting and illicit trade of tiger skin, it has almost stopped.

Assignment has created sure that, due to greedy human wants, tigers do not have to suffer. Every other species that were depleted due to human intervention have ceased to exist.

Capabilities are being captured by the national parks to preserve every animal. People have become more conscious of the issue of biodiversity and have taken measures to keep them from declining.

For many people, Project Tiger also created jobs. Since the project began, biodiversity has faced marginally less issues.

Not only has Project Tiger saved tigers, but also saved other aspects of biodiversity!
