Difference between PCOS and PCOD

We have heard about various physical conditions wherein the body is affected severely. Some of these conditions include PCOD and PCOS. Both of these conditions affect the body in various ways. There are several points of contrast between PCOD and PCOS. But before looking at the differences, it is important to know the basic meaning of PCOD and PCOS.

PCOD (Polycystic Ovary Disorder)

PCOD is defined as a medical condition that affects the women in an early age. PCOD is the most common kind of disease found in women of age 20 and above. PCOD is not a severe condition but some women can experience irregular periods and rapid hair growth. These are the early signs of PCOD. So, these are some points of difference among PCOS and PCOD. Well, it is important to know that both PCOD and PCOS are visible at an early age. Apart from the medications, both PCOD and PCOS can be cured by home remedies. Eating anti-inflammatory food items, low-carb food items can help in fighting this disease. One must not eat processed food or dairy products in order to cure PCOD or PCOS. It is essential to have a good diet and exercise regularly in order to help fight PCOD and PCOS. It is important to note that the causes related to PCOD and PCOS are the same. So, let us look at some of them.

  1. A woman suffering from PCOD releases an abnormal amount of male hormone, i.e., androgen. Overproduction of the male hormone leads to excessive acne, hair growth, and weight gain.
  2. In PCOD, a patient releases excessive amounts of insulin. As we know, insulin is used to control sugar levels in our body. Thus, a woman suffering from PCOD releases insulin which results in difficulty in ovulation.
  3. Sometimes, PCOD or PCOS is a genetic condition, i.e., it transfers from one generation to another. This transferring of disorder is one of the major reasons of women having PCOD.
  4. Women having PCOD encounter inflammation in their bodies. Due to this condition, the body releases the male hormone called androgen.

So, these are the causes of PCOD and PCOS. Along with the causes, there are certain complications associated with both disorders. The complications include:

So, these are some of the complications that are seen in women having PCOD and PCOS. Well, there are several types of PCOS that are visible in women. There are four significant kinds of PCOS. So, let us discuss them.

  1. Insulin-resistant PCOS: Insulin-resistant PCOS is commonly seen in PCOS. This kind of PCOS is caused by pollution, smoking, excessive sugar intake, etc. In this kind of PCOS, more amount of male hormone, i.e., testosterone, is released in a woman’s body.
  2. Pill-induced PCOS: as the name suggests, pill-induced PCOS is defined as a condition that is caused due to excessive intake of birth control pills. Well, the symptoms and complications caused by this kind of PCOS might not last long. The impact on the body reduces with the reduced effect of the pill.
  3. Inflammatory PCOS: In inflammatory PCOS, androgen hormone is released in the body. This kind of PCOS is caused due to stress, food items including gluten, etc. Symptoms of inflammatory PCOS include skin allergies, infections, headache, vitamin-D deficiency, etc.
  4. Concealed PCOS: As the name suggests, Concealed PCOS is defined as the condition which comes into light after 4-5 months. Symptoms of PCOS include thyroid, iodine deficiency, etc. One must not eat excessive sweet items as well.

So, these are significant types of PCOS. Both PCOD and PCOS are seen in women at an early age. It is important to note that PCOD and PCOS can be cured through several home remedies listed above. Thus, people must take several steps in order to cure PCOD or PCOS.
