How to Reset Android Phone

Are you thinking about reselling your Android phone or handover to someone else due to any reason? Maybe your smartphone is not working properly, or you want a fresh start. One of the best options is to perform the factory reset of your Android smartphone. It will turn back your phone at how your first time turns it on.

The factory reset on an Android device removes all your data and downloaded apps from the device but not OS upgrades. Performing factory reset is also called formatting or hard reset phone. The steps or process of a factory reset of Android phones may vary from model to model or device OS (but mostly the same).

Alert: performing a factory reset of the device will erase all your data present in your phone.

If you are going to perform a factory reset of Android due to its malfunctions and bad performance, it is suggested to find other solutions to your problem on how to fix them. If none of any solutions works for your device’s problem, you can restart or a soft reset that doesn’t delete all your data.

Note: Performing a factory reset on an Android phone will erase all your data and get your software back to the initial (original) state. It means all your data and apps presented on your phone will be deleted. Keep the backup of all your important and necessary files and data before doing this action.

Factory reset Android phone using Settings

If you are sure about doing a factory reset on Android, one of the simple and user-friendly ways to perform this action through device Settings. Before starting a factory reset Android, your phone should have enough battery, or it should be plugged in. Let’s see the complete steps to perform a factory reset Android phone (we are using a Realme device running on Android 10) using device Settings:

1. Launch your device Settings

2. Look for Additional setting.

3. Expand the options of the Additional (Advanced) setting by selecting it.

5. Now, click on Erase all data (factory reset).

7. Enter your PIN if prompted.

8. Select Erase all dataand let the phone do its task.

How to factory reset your Samsung phone

To factory reset your Samsung phone, follow the below-mentioned steps:

  1. Launch the Settings icon of your Samsung phone.
  2. Scroll down and look for General management.
  3. Now, click on the General management
  4. Tap to Reset.
  5. Click on the Factory data reset
  6. Scroll down and look for the Reset
  7. Click on the blue Reset
  8. Enter your device PIN if set and tap Next.
  9. Tap on Delete all

Your phone will be rebooted; now, follow the setup instruction again to restore your device data.

Factory reset Android using Recovery Mode

If your phone is creating issues due to any malfunction that restricts your phone from booting up, you can do a factory reset through recovery mode. You can enable device recovery mode by long-pressing power and volume down (in some phone volume up) buttons simultaneously.

Before starting to reset via recovery mode, you have to know about the security mode, which is called Factory Reset Protection.

Google introduced Factory Reset Protection (FRP) a few years ago, and this feature is included in all Android smartphones, which are running on Android Lollipop (5.0) and later. Factory Reset Protection facilitates that no one can do a factory reset of your stolen or lost phone and set it up as a new phone by booting into recovery mode. The recovery mode requires to login into your Google account connected to your device after a factory reset. If you fail to login with your account, you can’t proceed to setup.

1. First of all, be sure your phone is turned off.

2. Press and hold the Powerand Volume Down buttons simultaneously.

3. Continuously keep pressing them until the device screen starts.

4. The screen with RECOVERY MODE starts with the language option.

5. Select your preferred language (English).

6. You can use the Power button to select and Volume buttons for navigation.

7. Press thePower button to select it.

8. The phone goes restart and show an Android robot in trouble.

9. Press and hold the Powerbutton, then press the Volume Up button without leaving the Power button.

10. With the help of Volume buttons, navigate to Wipe data/factory reset.

11. Press the Powerbutton to select your option.

12. Confirm the option by selecting Yesand let the phone to do its task.

13. Once the task gets completed, select the Reboot system now.

Your phone’s power gets on and resets to its factory settings. When you turn on your phone, you have to go through the initial setup as it was a brand new phone. Once the setup complete, you can restore your backup data from wherever you had backed up.

As mentioned above, if you are resetting your phone through recovery mode, then Factory Reset Protection stops if you do not remove your Google Account from the device.
